Two‐Port MIMO Cylindrical DRA With FSS Reflector for Enhanced Gain and Isolation

ABSTRACT In this work, a two‐port aperture‐coupled cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (cDRA) integrated with a frequency selective surface (FSS)–based corner reflector is proposed for enhanced radiation performance and MIMO operation. Initially, a single‐port cDRA is analyzed to establish baseline characteristics with broadside radiation. Subsequently, an S‐shaped FSS‐based corner reflector configuration is introduced between two antiparallel DRA elements to achieve simultaneous gain enhancement and beam tilting. The proposed design enables directional radiation with beam steering up to ± 60°, while significantly improving isolation through pattern diversity. The antenna operates over the frequency range of 4.8–5.3 GHz, achieving an isolation level better than 25 dB and a gain enhancement of approximately 70% compared with the standalone DRA. Experimental results show good agreement with simulations, validating the proposed design methodology. Owing to its compact structure, high isolation, and improved radiation characteristics, the proposed antenna is a strong candidate for sub‐6 GHz 5G and WLAN applications.
