Multilayer soft magnetic systems with enhanced far-field radar microwave absorption

Multilayer dielectric–magnetic composites containing soft magnetic particles are shown to exhibit exceptionally strong microwave radar absorption, with experimentally measured attenuation levels of from −45 to −60 dB. The materials design is based on the deliberate combination of dielectric and soft magnetic components within individual composite layers, followed by their integration into tailored multilayer architectures. Crucially, the absorption performance was validated under realistic far-field radar conditions in an anechoic chamber, providing direct experimental evidence of their practical effectiveness. The results demonstrate that the multilayer configuration is instrumental in achieving both high-intensity and broadband microwave absorption, particularly across the X-band. Beyond establishing these composites as highly efficient microwave absorbers, this work introduces a promising design strategy for advanced radar-absorbing materials and next-generation stealth technologies. • Achieved >60 dB radar absorption in multilayer magnetic composites. • Trilayer systems enhanced both absorption and bandwidth significantly. • Real far-field radar tests confirm exceptional electromagnetic absorption performance. • Experimental setup simulates true operational radar conditions. • Results mark a breakthrough in practical radar absorption material design.
