Molecular And Network- Based Insights of Centella asiatica For Alzheimer's Disease –Linking Nature to Neurons
Abstract The present study highlights the therapeutic potential of Centella asiatica as a multi-target natural candidate for the management of Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Using successive solvent extraction, phytochemical screening, and GC–MS analysis, the ethanolic extract was found to contain several pharmacologically significant constituents, particularly terpenoids and flavonoids. Network pharmacology and molecular docking further demonstrated strong interactions between these compounds and key AD-associated targets, including acetylcholinesterase and apolipoproteins, indicating their ability to influence cholinergic signaling, neuroinflammatory pathways, and oxidative stress. By integrating traditional ethnopharmacological knowledge with modern computational approaches, this research provides mechanistic insights into the multifaceted actions of C. asiatica metabolites. Unlike conventional therapies that largely offer symptomatic relief, the identified phytochemicals show promise as potential disease-modifying agents. Overall, the findings underscore the value of combining phytochemistry, network pharmacology, and molecular docking as a holistic strategy for natural product–based drug discovery. Nevertheless, extensive in-vitro, in-vivo, and clinical studies are needed to validate these predictions and to establish the safety, efficacy, and bioavailability of the active constituents.
