Sequential Thermosensory Cooling Architecture

This paper presents the Sequential Thermosensory Cooling Architecture (STCA), a formulation-engineering framework for prolonged topical cooling persistence using temporally staged sensory and thermodynamic mechanisms within a single OTC-compatible formulation. The framework integrates four coordinated functional fractions: immediate receptor-mediated cooling, transitional diffusion sustain, delayed thermal buffering via phase-change materials (PCMs), and staggered sensory reinforcement designed to mitigate perceptual cooling collapse and TRPM8 adaptation. The work distinguishes itself from prior art not through individual ingredients, but through explicit sequential cooling-phase orchestration, timing-centric diffusion architecture, and flattened cooling-decay engineering intended to sustain moderate cooling sensation beyond conventional menthol-based durations. Commercial implementation pathways utilizing existing supplier technologies including Salvona delayed-release cooling systems and Alexium PCM platforms are discussed alongside example embodiments, safety considerations, consumer testing concepts, and potential applications in menopause support, sports recovery, migraine comfort, and wellness topicals. The framework is presented as a provisional invention architecture intended to guide future formulation optimization, validation testing, and commercialization development.

Abstract

This paper presents the Sequential Thermosensory Cooling Architecture (STCA), a formulation-engineering framework for prolonged topical cooling persistence using temporally staged sensory and thermodynamic mechanisms within a single OTC-compatible formulation. The framework integrates four coordinated functional fractions: immediate receptor-mediated cooling, transitional diffusion sustain, delayed thermal buffering via phase-change materials (PCMs), and staggered sensory reinforcement designed to mitigate perceptual cooling collapse and TRPM8 adaptation. The work distinguishes itself from prior art not through individual ingredients, but through explicit sequential cooling-phase orchestration, timing-centric diffusion architecture, and flattened cooling-decay engineering intended to sustain moderate cooling sensation beyond conventional menthol-based durations. Commercial implementation pathways utilizing existing supplier technologies including Salvona delayed-release cooling systems and Alexium PCM platforms are discussed alongside example embodiments, safety considerations, consumer testing concepts, and potential applications in menopause support, sports recovery, migraine comfort, and wellness topicals. The framework is presented as a provisional invention architecture intended to guide future formulation optimization, validation testing, and commercialization development.
