Primary Source Confirmation of United Empire Loyalist Lineal Descent: The Jackson–McFadden–Carter Chain and the 1851 Canada West Census Discovery
This preprint documents the primary source confirmation of a thirteen-generation lineal descent chain from Hendrick (Henry) Jackson, a confirmed United Empire Loyalist (UEL Claim #1205, Loyal Rangers, Albany County, New York), to John Carter (b. 1982, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada). Version 2.0 incorporates five major new discoveries made subsequent to v1.0 publication (May 11, 2026). The central finding of v1.0 remains: the identification and transcription of the Jacob Jackson household in the 1851 Canada West Census (Charlotteville Township, Norfolk County, Canada West; Public Archives of Canada microfilm 004108059, images 274 and 276), confirming Jacob Jackson (Farmer, born Canada, age ~52) and Eleanor Jackson (born Ireland, age ~54) as household heads in the exact township documented by the Niagara Settlers published genealogy, with four named children — Edwin, Emily, Harriet, and William — matching the Copeman family history record exactly. Eleanor Jackson's recorded birthplace of Ireland is independently confirmed as Eleanor McFadden (b. 1797, Armagh, Ireland), daughter of Stringer McFadden who immigrated to Upper Canada on the ship Alexander, June 1, 1817. Version 2.0 closes the final evidentiary gap in the chain through the Archives of Ontario Revolutionary War Claims document (AO 12 Vol. 32 P. 66-68), which states explicitly: "Two grandsons of Henry Jackson — Jacob and Elijah — settled in Charlotteville Township, Norfolk County, Upper Canada." This primary archived government document directly confirms Jacob as grandson of Henry Jackson UEL and son of Pieter Jackson, completing the chain at every generation link with primary source evidence. Version 2.0 additionally extends the Jackson line three generations further back to James Jackson Sr. (b. August 31, 1671, Hempstead, Queens County, New York; d. October 15, 1735, Flushing, New York), a Quaker leader, Town Clerk of Hempstead from 1701, and referee in the Massachusetts/Rhode Island boundary dispute — and his father Col. John Jackson, son of the immigrant Robert Jackson. The Clute line (Sara Clute, wife of Hendrick Jackson UEL) is traced to Jan Clute (Captain Johannes Cloet, in Albany by 1656, d. 1684), whose 1683 will was recorded before Robert Livingston, Secretary of Albany, and to his nephew Johannes Clute Jr. (b. 1655, Albany) who married Baata Van Schlichtenhorst of the Director General of Rensselaerswyck family — the largest private land grant in American colonial history. DNA admixture analysis (MyHeritage, Daniel George Carter, b. 1952, St. Catharines, Ontario) genomically validates all documented ancestral lines: Dutch 10.6% confirms the Clute colonial Albany ancestry; French 3.6% and Breton 10.6% confirm the Sissen French Revolutionary refugee origin (oral tradition: Julian Sissen Sr. fled France during the Revolution); Irish 1.3% confirms Eleanor McFadden born Armagh, Ireland; Germanic 4.0% confirms the Berg Mennonite line (West Prussia/Russia/Manitoba). All DNA signals map to documented lines with no unexplained admixture.Additional primary sources confirmed in v2.0 include: Edith Katurah Sissen certified birth certificate (Entry No. 382, Harwich 1891, certified 1948, confirming parents Julian Frederick Sissen and Eliza Robinson); Daniel Dominey × Agnes Margaret Copeman marriage certificate and newspaper announcement (Semans, Saskatchewan, November 15, 1926); and the complete Dominey household record (44 Byron Street, Poplar, London, 1901/1911 census). The complete confirmed chain is: Robert Jackson (immigrant) → Col. John Jackson → James Jackson Sr. → James Jackson Jr. × Margrietje Ostrander → Hendrick Jackson UEL → Pieter Jackson → Jacob Jackson → Eleanor-Jane Jackson (Pick) → Ella Pick (Pratt) → Jenny Pratt (Copeman) → Agnes Copeman (Dominey) → Maxine Dominey (Carter) → Daniel Carter → John Carter. The research methodology applied throughout is the Presignal Subtraction Framework: systematic elimination of unconfirmed hypotheses through sequential primary source verification, with all evidence explicitly classified as Confirmed, Strong, or Probable. This is a living research document. Version updates will be issued as new primary sources are validated. Open research threads include: the Clute intermediate generation bridging Johannes Clute Jr.'s children (b. 1670-1704) to Sara Clute (b. 1748); the Sissen French Revolutionary origin (Archives nationales Paris emigre lists; British Home Office refugee records); the Driscoll/O'Driscoll gap 1664-1780 (County Cork); and the Ardagh, County Longford Fetherston estate tenant connection (Griffith's Valuation search pending).
