The Quantum Ambidexterity Cube: A Theory of the Living Organization
This work introduces the Quantum Ambidexterity Cube (QAC) — an integrative geometric theory that reconceptualizes the contemporary organization not as a complex machine but as a living digital organism. At the heart of the theory lies a dynamic spheroid of variable density navigating a three-dimensional Euclidean space defined by three fundamental modes of organizational being: Exploration, Adaptation, and eXploitation. The center of this spheroid represents the organization's integrated digital maturity, while its surface is composed of six management domains — Power, Technology & Data, Processes, Innovation, Culture, Emotions — each continuously shaped by a corresponding external force from the surrounding environment. The theory proposes Diagonal Resonance as the ideal developmental state: a dynamic equilibrium in which the three primal modes evolve in harmony. Through a unique synthesis of organizational ambidexterity (March, 1991; O'Reilly & Tushman, 2013), dynamic capabilities (Teece, 1997, 2007), digital transformation research (Vial, 2019; Kane et al., 2015), and differential geometry (Hamilton, 1982; Perelman, 2002, 2003), the QAC introduces both a new ontology and a rigorous mathematical apparatus capable of describing organizational evolution as deformation of a living geometric form under internal dynamic capabilities and external forces. By treating the organization as a living, evolving entity with its own anatomy, physiology, and consciousness, this work lays the foundation for the next generation of management tools — true organizational digital twins capable of real-time simulation of how managerial decisions shape the living geometry of the enterprise. The theory is developed for the conditions of the BANI world — brittle, anxious, nonlinear, and incomprehensible — where mechanistic approaches to management increasingly fail, and is operationalized for the Russian institutional context through the RUDMMA methodology (Russian Unified Digital Maturity Model for Management Assessment). This is not another framework for digital transformation. This is a theory of the living digital organization — and, equally, a prototype of the future theory of management itself.
