All-solid-state rechargeable air batteries using anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid as the negative electrode active material
Abstract We developed all-solid-rechargeable air batteries (SSABs) using a redox-active organic molecule, anthraquinone-2-carboxylic acid (AQC), as the negative electrode. We investigated the effects of the solid polymer electrolyte membrane thickness and cathode active material concentration on the charge/discharge characteristics, rate performance, and cyclability of the resulting SSABs. Because of the low redox potential, compared with other previously tested redox-active materials, the AQC-based SSABs exhibited a high cell voltage. The use of a thicker proton conductive membrane as a solid electrolyte resulted in a higher discharge capacity and Coulombic efficiency.
