Outcomes of endolymphatic sac surgery for lermoyez syndrome: a 2-year and 10-year follow-up
BACKGROUND: Lermoyez syndrome (LS) is a rare auditory disorder, and its treatment is empirical. The efficacy of endolymphatic sac surgery for LS remains unknown. OBJECTIVES: To assess short- and long-term outcomes of endolymphatic sac surgery (ELS) in Lermoyez syndrome (LS). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective analysis of 19 patients with refractory LS from a tertiary hospital in China. The primary outcome was change in vertigo attack frequency over 6 months at 2- and 10-year follow-ups compared with the 6 months preoperatively. Hearing outcomes and predictors of improvement were evaluated. RESULTS: = 0.029). All patients tolerated endolymphatic sac surgery well. CONCLUSIONS AND SIGNIFICANCE: ELS is a safe, effective option for refractory LS, providing durable vertigo control and helping prevent further hearing deterioration. Efficacy diminishes with advancing stage, supporting earlier surgical intervention to maximize hearing preservation.
