Z-GREEN RMDC: A Renewable Modular Data Center Architecture for Energy-Efficient and Sustainable Digital Infrastructure
This research presents Z-GREEN RMDC, a renewable modular data center architecture designed to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, and operational scalability in modern digital infrastructure environments. The study addresses the increasing environmental impact of cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads, and large-scale data center deployments by proposing a zonal modular framework integrating renewable energy systems, localized cooling strategies, distributed power routing, and battery energy storage systems (BESS). The proposed architecture is evaluated using mathematical models and comparative performance analysis across key sustainability metrics, including Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), cooling efficiency, carbon emissions, water usage effectiveness (WUE), deployment scalability, and total cost of ownership (TCO). Results indicate significant improvements in energy utilization, cooling overhead reduction, renewable integration efficiency, and long-term operational sustainability compared to traditional monolithic data center architectures. The work contributes an architecture-centric approach toward building environmentally sustainable and scalable data center ecosystems capable of supporting high-density and AI-driven workloads while minimizing carbon and resource impact.
