Lutembacher Syndrome: Two Case Reports from Two Ethnicities
Abstract Lutembacher syndrome encompasses a congenital atrial septum defect together with acquired mitral stenosis, usually rheumatic. The uniqueness of this syndrome is because of the interplay of hemodynamics’ of the two lesions, which alters the overall course of the disease process. We are presenting two cases of Lutembacher’s syndrome in different stages of their natural history from two developing countries. One was successfully managed by interventional procedure, which included percutaneous transluminal mitral commissurotomy and atrial septal defect (ASD) device closure, whereas the other by surgery, which included mitral valve replacement and ASD patch closure.
