Measurement uncertainty of spectral mismatch correction factors in photometry

Abstract The measurement uncertainty of spectral mismatch correction factors is a central topic in photometry and colorimetry. This article shows how Monte Carlo simulations can be used to realistically record and evaluate measurement uncertainties of spectral measurement quantities and their correlations. Complex interactions occur, particularly when integrating weighted spectral data and forming integral ratios, for example, when calculating spectral mismatch correction factors. These interactions can partially compensate another regarding the measurement uncertainty of the correction factor. The article addresses fundamental challenges in measurement uncertainty evaluation and presents current methodological approaches for imaging luminance measurement devices evaluating their luminance measurement signal and luminance responsivity behavior. The focus is on open research questions: How can unknown correlations across the wavelength range be estimated or modelled? The aim is to provide a well-founded overview of the state of research and existing gaps.
