Responsive Phase Gradient Metasurface for Laser Stealth and Dynamic Thermal Camouflage
ABSTRACT Camouflage technology has attracted growing interest across a wide range of thermal applications. However, as detection technologies continue to advance and camouflage scenarios become increasingly complex, achieving non‐interfering spatial and spectral control across broad infrared bands remains a critical challenge for multispectral dynamic camouflage. In this study, we propose and demonstrate a multispectral‐responsive metasurface capable of maintaining robust directional reflection control from the middle wave infrared to the middle wave infrared region while independently enabling dynamic modulation of thermal emission. The metasurface achieves an ultralow specular reflectance (≈0.2) across the broadband range of 3–18 µm and exhibits high emissivity tunability of 0.32 and 0.64 in the 3–5 µm and 7.5–14 µm bands, respectively, arising from beam‐splitting effects and the amorphous–crystalline phase transition of Ge 2 Sb 2 Te 5 . Experimental results confirm that the proposed metasurface maintains stable laser directional reflection performance and enables controllable thermal camouflage, outperforming existing laser–infrared compatible camouflage technologies. This work provides a new design paradigm for stimulus‐responsive materials capable of independent spatial and spectral control and opens new avenues for multimodal regulation in multispectral applications.
