Utility Network Migration Is Not Value—Model Truth Is
Utilities depend on a geographic information system (GIS) as the digital record of asset location and, importantly, how they connect. Historically, many organizations considered GIS just “the map.” Today, it increasingly serves as the backbone for model‐driven operations: outage response and switching, field work execution, distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection, and analytics that require a reliable view of the network. ArcGIS Utility Network (UN) is now regarded as the GIS standard for electric and gas utilities.
