Aesthetic medicine treatments for oncology patients — a narrative literature review
Due to increasingly effective anticancer treatments and the extension of patients’ life expectancy, oncological disease is increasingly recognized as a chronic disease. Extending life expectancy should include a holistic approach to the patient and also take into account the quality of life. Aesthetic treatments are becoming increasingly popular among oncology patients due to the impact of both the treatment and the disease itself on physical appearance, such as weight fluctuations, hair loss and scarring. The aim of this review was to provide a clinical guide to the safe use of dermo-aesthetic treatments to improve the quality of life of the patients. It is an overview of the different types of treatments, their contraindications and possible side effects. This review is intended to help establish a safe protocol for the use of aesthetic medical procedures during follow-up. However, it is still necessary to consult your oncologist before undergoing any dermo-aesthetic procedure.
