ABSTRACT NUMBER: ESOC2026A1580 EFFECT OF CHITOSAN-BASED HYDROGEL/NANOPARTICLES REINFORCED WITH ALGINATE ON THE LOWERING BLOOD PRESSURE IN HYPERTENSIVE RATS

Abstract Background and aims Chitosan and alginate attracted our interest for enormous remarkable applications for their unique nature. Alginate gels are used in medical applications because of their biodegradability. We isolated chitosan from the chitin of shrimp and crab shell in the laboratory of Institute of Radiation and Polymer Technology (IRPT), Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and hydrogels/nanoparticles were prepared combining with alginate. Methods Gamma radiation was applied at different doses on these materials for proper cross-linking. The materials were characterized by the FTIR, scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), density and swelling ratio evaluation, in-vitro biodegradability etc. The porosity and density of the prepared gel was measured through the liquid displacement method using ethanol. The materials will be applied orally in the hypertensive rats. Results The porosity of the nanoparticles were greater than 85%. Nanoparticles swelling properties have been shown to significantly influence cell behaviors such as adhesion, growth and differentiation. Nanoparticles developed porous composites that could yield appropriate biodegradability and swelling properties. SEM analysis showed open pore structure in the nanoparticles and FTIR result showed intermolecular interaction between components. The porous nanoparticles may be a promising substitute for biomedical application. Conclusions In the present study, the prepared and characterized hydrogel/nanoparticles will be applied in the lowering blood pressure in the hypertensive rats. The outcome of the project will have significant effects on the development of new field in health care sector. After fruitful completion, the knowledge would be quite helpful for designing the clinical remedies. Conflict of interest Nothing to disclose
