Experimental Research Progress on Black Arsenic and Puckered Arsenene: A Brief Review
ABSTRACT Black arsenic (b‐As) has attracted considerable research attention owing to its structural similarity to black phosphorus (b‐P) and enhanced air stability. Its exceptional properties have been extensively investigated through electrical and thermal transport measurements, as well as Raman spectroscopic analyses. Furthermore, targeted external manipulation of b‐As can induce novel physical phenomena, including an electron‐hole asymmetric Rashba valley, an unusual quantum Hall state, and a negative Poisson's ratio. This concise review systematically examines current experimental investigations on both b‐As and puckered arsenene, with a focus on three key aspects: (i) synthesis and structural characteristics, (ii) intrinsic material properties, and (iii) external modulation effects. The review provides a comprehensive summary of experimental progress in b‐As research, highlights promising future directions, potential applications, and offers strategic recommendations for further exploration. Additionally, it delivers practical guidance for subsequent experimental studies on b‐As and puckered arsenene.
