Assessment of serum soluble cd25 before and after treatment with narrowband ultraviolet b in vitiligo

Background There is limited data on circulating markers associated with progressing vitiligo. Nonetheless, because an increased extent of vitiligo is associated with a worse quality of life, accurate disease activity detection is critical for effective treatment. Aim To assess the impact of narrowband ultraviolet B on circulating soluble interleukin-2 receptor alpha (sIL-2Rα)/CD25 in vitiligo. Patients and methods This was a pre-post quasi-experimental study that was conducted on a total of 35 vitiligo patients. The study started from August 2023 to January 2024. All patients were evaluated preintervention using the vitiligo disease activity, and vitiligo extent scores and their complete blood counts and sCD25 titre. All patients were treated in a phototherapy unit. Measuring serum titre of CD25 was done after two weeks of the last session. Repigmentation assessment: Including follicular pigmentation, shrinkage of the lesion. Results Hb, Hct, and neutrophil (%) counts were all increased after the treatment, and this increase was statistically significant ( P =0.003 and <0.001, respectively). WBCs, MID (absolute), lymphocyte (%), and lymphocyte (absolute) counts were significantly decreased after receiving the treatment. ( P =<0.001). There was a statistically significant difference between the mean serum titre of sIL-2Rα/CD25 from before to after the treatment ( P =0.011), where the mean serum titre increased after the treatment. Conclusion There is an inverse relationship between the serum titre of IL-2Rα/CD25 and vitiligo.
