ABSTRACT NUMBER: ESOC2026A167 CO-CREATING ACCESSIBLE DIGITAL RESOURCES FOR THE REHABILITATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH STROKE: AN OVERVIEW OF THE ARYAS EU PROJECT

Abstract Background and aims Young people with stroke (YpwS) face significant barriers in accessing age-relevant information. Existing educational and rehabilitation materials are frequently linguistically or cognitively inaccessible and rarely reflect age-specific life domains such as parenting, finances, returning to work or study, or intimacy. The ARYAS (Accessible Resources for Young Adults with Stroke) project is a European-funded project that aims to co-create a digital hub, including a website and mobile application, of accessible resources across Europe. Methods The consortium includes 4 national stroke NGOs (Denmark, Hungary, Spain, Cyprus), the Cyprus University of Technology, and a technology SME in Portugal, ensuring a sustainable, user-driven design and final product. A co-creation framework underpins all stages of the project, structured around iterative co-design cycles with YPwS, clinicians, and NGO staff in all partner countries. Core co-design activities include: (a) accessibility mapping of existing materials; (b) creative co-design workshops; and (c) prototype testing. Results Co-creation activities with YPwS have revealed shared cross-country needs, including accessible explanations of stroke and aphasia, tools for everyday communication, and resources addressing employment, education, and social participation. Prototype testing highlights the importance of multimodal design (visual, audio, simplified text). The final ARYAS hub will include co-created content, videos, podcasts, and aphasia-friendly guides, all available in multiple languages. Conclusions ARYAS will deliver the first international, co-created digital resource hub specifically designed for YPwS. By involving YPwS as equal research partners, the project promotes inclusive design, strengthens person-centred rehabilitation, and provides NGOs and clinicians with a scalable, evidence-informed model for developing accessible digital health resources across Europe.
