ABSTRACT NUMBER: ESOC2026A2407 FIVE-YEAR EXPERIENCE AT A TIA CLINIC: A DESCRIPTIVE AND COMPARATIVE STUDY OF TIA AND MINOR ISCHEMIC STROKE
Abstract Background and aims The Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) Clinic is a rapid access service providing prompt evaluation and secondary prevention for patients with transient ischemic attack or minor ischemic stroke, aiming to reduce subsequent stroke risk and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. This study describes and compares clinical characteristics, diagnostic workup, management strategies, and short term outcomes among patients assessed in this setting. Methods We conducted a retrospective descriptive observational study including all patients evaluated at the fast track TIA Clinic of the Neurology Department at Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz between 2021 and 2025 who were diagnosed with TIA or minor ischemic stroke. Eligibility required a low risk profile defined by an ABCD2 score below three and absence of clinical or radiological red flags. Statistical significance was defined as p less than 0.05. Results A total of 113 patients were included, 90 (79.6%) with TIA and 23 (20.4%) with minor ischemic stroke. Mean age was similar between groups and no differences were observed in systolic or diastolic blood pressure at presentation. Symptom duration, time to medical evaluation, cerebrovascular risk factors, and laboratory parameters were comparable. Patent foramen ovale was more frequently detected in patients with minor ischemic stroke (13.0% versus 1.1%). Acute management, secondary prevention therapies, hospital admission rates, and ninety day outcomes, including recurrent cerebrovascular events and functional status, did not differ significantly. Conclusions Patients managed through a fast track TIA Clinic show similar clinical profiles, diagnostic evaluation, management strategies, and short term outcomes, supporting comparable diagnostic and therapeutic Conflict of interest All authors: nothing to disclose
