Active Power Oscillation Suppression Strategy for Grid-forming VSG Parallel Networking System Based on Transient Damping Compensation

• Proposes a transient damping compensation - based control strategy for grid - forming VSG parallel networking systems (GFVPNS). It incorporates an active power differential transient feedback compensation component into the active power closed - loop control, which can effectively suppress active power oscillations without increasing system complexity significantly, unlike some traditional methods that may rely on complex communication or high - order control. • Develops a small-signal dynamic model with the compensation component and details the design procedure for compensation parameters. Through experiments on a microgrid with two 100 kVA - VSGs, the strategy is verified to enhance both transient and steady - state active power performance of GFVPNS. The grid-forming virtual synchronous generator (VSG) emulates the rotor motion of conventional synchronous machines, thereby supplying critical inertia support for grid-forming power conversion units. However, this control process often leads to dynamic fluctuations in active power, particularly in grid-forming VSG parallel networking systems (GFVPNS), where such disturbances are more evident. To address this issue, this paper proposes a control strategy based on transient damping compensation to suppress active power oscillations in GFVPNS. The core idea is to incorporate an active power differential transient feedback compensation component into the closed-loop control framework for active power regulation. By fine-tuning the parameters related to transient damping compensation, the system’s dynamic response and damping behavior can be markedly improved, thereby significantly enhancing both transient and steady-state active power performance in the GFVPNS. Furthermore, a small-signal dynamic model incorporating the proposed compensation component is developed. Based on this model, the design procedure for determining appropriate compensation parameters is elaborated in detail. Finally, experimental comparisons are conducted on a microgrid composed of two 100 kVA-VSGs units, confirming the effectiveness and performance advantages of the proposed control methodology.
