Descriptive epidemiology of pediatric autoimmune diseases of the central nervous system in the afro-descendant population of the Caribbean Island of Martinique
First study of autoimmune central nervous system diseases in 25 Afro-Caribbean children. The incidence of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder was markedly higher than the global pediatric average. There were no deaths, and most children had favorable outcomes with glucocorticoid and immunosuppressive treatments. Further research across Caribbean territories is needed to better understand these disease trends.
