Accidental Tracheal Tube Cuff Puncture During Ultrasound-guided Chemoport Insertion through Right Internal Jugular Vein
Complications associated with chemoport insertion have been grossly reduced after the use of ultrasound as it provides real-time visualisation of the entire procedure. Of which the incidence of tracheal tube cuff puncture is very rare in the era of ultrasound guidance. We report one such case of endotracheal tube puncture during ultrasound-guided internal jugular vein cannulation for chemoport placement in a 62-year-old carcinoma stomach patient. Endotracheal tube cuff puncture might be a dangerous complication as it can result in aspiration of gastric content, especially during laparoscopic procedures. Furthermore, it can result in hypoventilation and hypoxia if there is a delay in troubleshooting. Positioning the patient’s head turned >15° and overshooting the puncture needle are the two important factors associated with accidental endotracheal tube cuff puncture.
