Numerical Study of Heat and Mass Transfer in Sawtooth Roof Ventilated Enclosure
In this study, fluid flow and heat and mass transfer are numerically analyzed in a sawtooth roof slot-ventilated enclosure to optimize the removal of contaminants and thermal energy generated by a thermosolutal source and a wall heater. Fresh cold air is supplied through dual inlets on the left and right vertical walls, while heat and contaminants passively exit through a chimney outlet with an inclination angle [Formula: see text] located at the upper-left corner. A semi-implicit finite volume-based staggered grid approach is employed to solve the nonlinear coupled flow governing equations to analyze the flow physics associated with entropy formation. Various compact sawtooth roof-shaped geometries with dual-inlet ports are considered using several key performance metrics to determine the ventilation efficiency. The performance of the outlet chimney is evaluated through variation in the inclination angle ([Formula: see text]) with a fixed roof inclination angle ([Formula: see text]) of 9 deg. The influence of Reynolds numbers, Richardson numbers, and roof inclination angles is measured by performance metrics such as the average Nusselt, Sherwood, and Bejan numbers; air changes per hour; cooling efficiency coefficient; and the performance evaluation criterion inside the enclosure. Correlations for the Nusselt number ([Formula: see text]) and Sherwood number ([Formula: see text]) are established with respect to the Reynolds number ([Formula: see text]), Richardson number ([Formula: see text]), and the roof inclination angle ([Formula: see text]), and it is observed that the confidence bound is 95% in efficiency for heat and mass transfer.
