Translationswissenschaftliche Aspekte der Übersetzung in Leichte Sprache unter Berücksichtigung von ChatGPT

Abstract This article focuses on translation strategies for Easy Language, particularly conceptual strategies related to the reduction and addition of content. Versions in Easy Language from one ministerial and three municipal websites on the highly topical issue of Smart City are examined with regard to the implementation of these strategies and compared with versions generated using ChatGPT. The study specifically investigates how human translators and the AI tool address the challenge of concretizing the complex and abstract concept of Smart City and illustrating its everyday relevance for the target audience of Easy Language. Additionally, the article explores whether ChatGPT can be of practical benefit in translating into Easy Language.
