EducTUM – an interactive platform for education and training in the non-destructive analysis of radioactive waste

Abstract To ensure the proper handling of the increasing amount of radioactive waste as well as re-characterization of old waste, non-destructive methods can be used to characterize and classify it. In Germany, due to the exit from nuclear energy as well as demographic changes, the knowledge on these characterization methods may be lost. To prevent the loss of this knowledge it has to be maintained and handed down to the new generation of workers, specialists, scientist as well as the general public. EducTUM is a website available at https://EducTUM.de , designed to preserve and provide this knowledge as well as offering the possibility of training new staff. Aimed at a wide range of users with greatly varying experience in the field of radioactivity EducTUM utilizes different forms of media (from plain text over videos to interactive tools) to present the knowledge and help retain the competence of non-destructive characterization of radioactive waste.
