Competency assessment of synthesized titanate nanowires for preconcentration of terbium from monazite liquors

Abstract The synthesized titanate nanowires (TNW) via hydrothermal technique were used for sorption of 160 Tb from aquatic media and it was characterized by various analysis as: XRD, FT-IR, SEM, EDX, TEM, and BET surface area. The influence of some factors such as: pH, shaking time, initial 160 Tb concentration, sorbent dosage, temperature, and desorption process was studied. As well as, the recycling study was also explored. The kinetic results were subjected to the pseudo-second-order. The isothermal sorption data clarified that, the Langmuir model was more compatible with monolayer sorption capacity of 36.65 mg/g. The thermodynamic functions clarified the randomness, spontaneous and endothermic sorption process. Desorption of 160 Tb from the loaded TNW was done by diverse eluents and the best eluent is 0.1 M of EDTA (69.84 %). Ultimately, the results showed that TNW has high selectivity and separation of Tb(III) from REEs of monazite liquor with the highest separation factor of Tb from Dy reached 27.26.
