Reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption triggered by rhinovirus and beta-hemolytic streptococcus co-infection
We describe a case of reactive infectious mucocutaneous eruption (RIME) triggered by co-infection with rhinovirus and beta-hemolytic streptococcus. This presentation suggests that distinct pathogens may act synergistically to produce a powerful host immunological response, resulting in striking mucocutaneous clinical features. Our case illustrates the importance of screening for a broad range of respiratory pathogens, as positive findings may aid diagnosis of RIME and inform the choice of targeted antimicrobial therapy.
