Directional Land Optimisation for Improving Crop Yield and Water Efficiency: A Field-Based Study in Sugarcane Farming

This study investigates the role of directional land optimization and spatial field configuration in improving agricultural performance, with a focus on sugarcane farming under drought-prone conditions. The research explores how systematic alignment of crop rows, structured placement of irrigation sources, and optimized field zoning can influence key agronomic parameters such as crop yield, water usage, and soil moisture retention. A comparative field-based analysis was conducted between conventionally managed farms and those implementing a structured spatial layout model. The findings indicate that optimized field configuration can lead to measurable improvements, including increased yield, reduced irrigation requirements, and enhanced soil moisture levels. The study integrates traditional land-planning insights with modern agricultural principles, presenting a low-cost, scalable, and sustainable approach to improving farm productivity. It highlights the importance of spatial factors—often overlooked in conventional practices—as a critical component in climate-resilient agriculture. Overall, the research contributes to the development of alternative, resource-efficient farming strategies and provides a foundation for further interdisciplinary studies combining traditional knowledge systems with scientific validation.
