Evaluating the Current Asylum System for Climate Refugees and Recommendations to Create a Global Policy

This article critically examines the drawbacks of current policies and frameworks addressing asylum applications for climate refugees. It proposes a four-phase policy approach, with concrete timelines and commentary on the potential advantages and challenges of its implementation. The article also introduces a model that incorporates economic and social indicators, using ND-GAIN and socio-economic weights to predict patterns in climate migration and assess the countries that will contribute to and accept climate refugees. By integrating principles of international refugee law, historical policy responses to refugee distribution, and modern data analysis, the article offers a phased legal pathway for future policy development on environmental migration.
