Delays in diagnosis of Powassan virus encephalitis—Vermont, 2022–2023
Abstract Tickborne encephalitic disease caused by Powassan virus (POWV) is increasing in the United States. We describe two recent POWV encephalitis cases reported in Vermonters; both experienced diagnostic delays. These cases provide insights into neuroinvasive symptoms, long-term sequelae, and laboratory tests for diagnosing POWV disease.
