A REVIEW ON FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ORODISPERSIBLE TABLET CONTAINING TURMERIC EXTRACT, GINGER EXTRACT AND BLACK PEPPER EXTRACT

Orodispersible tablets (ODTs) have emerged as an advanced oral drug delivery system designed to enhance patient compliance and provide rapid onset of action, particularly in pediatric and geriatric populations. The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of ODTs containing turmeric extract (Curcuma longa), ginger extract (Zingiber officinale), and black pepper extract (Piper nigrum), which are well known for their diverse pharmacological activities. The formulation was developed using suitable excipients and superdisintegrants to achieve rapid disintegration and optimal drug release. The inclusion of piperine from black pepper plays a crucial role as a bioavailability enhancer, improving the absorption of curcumin and other phytoconstituents. The prepared tablets were evaluated for pre-compression and post-compression parameters such as flow properties, hardness, friability, weight variation, drug content, disintegration time, and in vitro dissolution. The results demonstrated that the formulated ODTs exhibited satisfactory physicochemical properties with rapid disintegration and improved dissolution profile. The combination of these herbal extracts showed a synergistic effect, enhancing therapeutic efficacy and overcoming limitations such as poor bioavailability. Thus, the developed orodispersible tablet formulation represents a promising, patient-friendly, and effective approach for herbal drug delivery.
