Validation of the Turkish Version of the 12-Item Aggression Questionnaire

The purpose of this study was to examine the validity and the reliability of the Turkish Version of the 12-Item Aggression Questionnaire (AQ-12). A total of 286 undergraduate students (217 female, 64 male) voluntarily participated in the study. Based on participants’ responses, statistical analyses were performed to assess the reliability, factor structure and validity of the Turkish Version of the AQ-12. Reliability analysis of the scale revealed good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .84), and confirmatory factor analysis supported its single-factor structure. Moreover, convergent validity of the scale was confirmed by the significant positive correlation with the Revised Cyber Bullying Inventory for University Students (RCBI)(r = .37, p < .001). The divergent validity of the AQ-12 was evidenced by the nonsignificant correlations with Compassion Scale (CS) (r = –.02 to .13, p > .05). The findings revealed that the Turkish Version of the AQ-12 is a valid and reliable tool for measuring aggression among university students. AQ-12 can be used by researchers, counsellors and other mental health practitioners aiming to prevent aggression or intervene in incidents of aggression among the university youth.
