A STUDY ON PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING AMONG MADRASAH STUDENTS IN WEST BENGAL

Psychological well-being is a crucial component of students’ overall development, influencing their academic performance, emotional stability, and ability to cope with challenges. The present study aims to examine the psychological well-being of Madrasah students in West Bengal and to explore its variation across selected demographic and socio-educational factors. A quantitative research approach was adopted using a cross-sectional survey design. The study was conducted on a sample of 240 Madrasah students selected from four districts of West Bengal i.e. Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar through simple random sampling. Data were collected using the standardized Ryff’s Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWB), which measures multiple dimensions of well-being including autonomy, environmental mastery, personal growth, positive relations, purpose in life, and self-acceptance. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation. The findings revealed that there is no significant difference in psychological well-being between male and female students. However, significant differences were observed across class levels, social categories, and parental education, indicating the influence of academic stage, socio-cultural background, and family environment on students’ well-being. Furthermore, the study identified a significant moderate positive relationship between age and psychological well-being, suggesting that well-being tends to improve with increasing age due to greater emotional maturity and adaptive coping skills. The study highlights that psychological well-being is shaped by multiple interacting factors rather than a single determinant. It emphasizes the need for educational institutions, particularly in Madrasah settings, to adopt holistic and inclusive strategies that address students’ emotional, social, and academic needs. The findings provide important insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers in designing effective interventions to promote students’ mental health and overall development.

Psychological well-being is a crucial component of students’ overall development, influencing their academic performance, emotional stability, and ability to cope with challenges. The present study aims to examine the psychological well-being of Madrasah students in West Bengal and to explore its variation across selected demographic and socio-educational factors. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson’s correlation. The findings revealed that there is no significant difference in psychological well-being between male and female students.
