COMPARATIVE STUDY ON TEACHER-PUPILS CLASSROOM INTERACTIONAL BEHAVIORS IN PRIVATE AND GOVERNMENT PRE-SCHOOLS IN WEST BENGAL
This study focused on the preschool classroom interaction climate and its level, observed using the Flanders Interaction Observation System (FIACS) in real classroom settings. Here, the classroom climate was estimated based on teacher talk, pupil talk, confusion, teacher response, & student/pupil initiation. The comparison of classroom interaction was represented through instantaneous Teacher initiation & quires, student initiation, and response. The study found that teacher talk was higher in private preschools than in government preschools, suggesting a teacher-centred classroom climate. Pupil talk was higher in government preschools, indicating that government preschoolers take the initiative and enjoy greater freedom during classroom interaction. The level of classroom interaction was estimated through the Immediate Teacher Response Ratio (ITRR89); (ITRR89) which was high in private preschools and the value of the Immediate Teacher Question Ratio (ITQR89) was high in government preschools.
