Disability Confidence and the Ethics of Care
As enrolment by students with disclosed disabilities increases annually and the law is amended to require private institutions to provide reasonable accommodations, the need for teachers to assess and improve their ability to create inclusive learning environments becomes greater. This paper outlines the concept of disability confidence in education and explains how it complements a four-stage model of the ethics of care. This paper also offers questions to guide reflection and suggestions for continuing professional development.
