Flowability Evaluation for PVDF-Mediated Solvent-Free Li-Ion Battery Electrode Powders

Solvent-free (dry) electrode fabrication offers major advantages in productivity, performance, and environmental sustainability; however, its commercialization is limited by an incomplete understanding of powder mechanics. The mechanical stability of dry slurry electrodes is governed by polymer binders that control powder cohesion, flowability, and structural integrity. Aquantitative powder-rheology framework elucidates how binder content, particle characteristics, and particle rearrangement govern particulate cohesion and processability. The first systematic analysis of yield strength, flow function coefficient, and friction angles reveals the mechanisms of binder-directed particulate mechanics under shear and provides practical design rules for evaluating powder processability in next-generation electrode manufacturing.
