Early Scholars Spring School on Web Archives

The concept of the Spring School on Web Archives emerged from the RESAW conference held in Marseille in June 2023. After a first successful two-day session during IIPC WAC24 in Paris, it was a natural next step to prepare a second session for IIPCWAC26, spanning one day to minimize travel costs for early scholars and providing a unique opportunity to facilitate discussion with major international stakeholders both in the academic and professional fields. The Spring School aims to create a dynamic and engaging environment, fostering knowledge exchange, and building connections among the next generation of scholars in the field of web archives. Practical information The language of the Spring School is English. Agenda 9:00 Welcome of participants at KBR (in the lobby) 9:15 Welcome notes (in the Newspaper Reading Room) 9:30–10:00 Interactive icebreaker activity 10:00–11:00 BelgicaWeb Symposium 11:00–12:30 Discussion with participants on the insights from the BelgicaWeb presentation, followed by a broader guided collective discussion on collaboration between web archivists and researchers 12:30 Lunch 13:30–16:15 Discussions and presentations by participants, organized in several stages. During the first hour, you will be divided into three small groups of three or four people (you are 10 participants) to present your research and challenges to each other, guided by a facilitator (Emmanuelle Bermès, Ian Milligan or Valérie Schafer). This will be followed by 30 minutes of collective feedback from each group, before moving into broader discussions addressing the key questions and issues. 16:15 Break 16:30–17:30 Collaborative work on a collective poster addressing the conference theme of sustainability. This poster is part of an evolving proposal that will be further enriched by all conference participants during WAC26. The Spring School is supported by IIPC, KBR (Belgium), École Nationale des Chartes – PSL (France), GDR Internet, AI and Society (Center for Internet and Society, CNRS, Paris) and C2DH (University of Luxembourg).
