Lactarius kumraticus sp. nov. (Russulaceae, Russulales) From Kumrat, Pakistan
Lactarius kumraticus is described as a new species from the Kumrat valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. Morphological characters and molecular phylogenetic analyses of nrITS and nrLSU sequence data support its taxonomic status. The species is characterized by a spherical to deeply infundibulam form, hygrophanous, gray to pinkish orange, and zonate pileus with striate margins at maturity; slightly toothed adnate to subdecurrent lamellae; a cylindrical, nonscrobiculate, vivid orange‐brown stipe, and brick red latex. Basidiospores are subglobose to broadly ellipsoid (mean 6.19 × 5.35 μm) with ornamentation forming an almost complete reticulum. Pleuromacrocystidia are narrowly clavate with an obtuse apex, cheilomacrocystidia narrowly clavate to clavate with mucronate apex, hymenial leptocystidia are absent, and pseudocystidia are narrowly clavate to clavate. Phylogenetically, L . kumraticus forms a strongly supported monophyletic lineage within L . subgen. Lactarius section Deliciosi. A detailed description, illustrations, phylogenetic results, and comparisons with closely related taxa are provided.
