Vastu-Based Spatial Optimisation in North-Facing Commercial Shops: A Case Study and Statistical Analysis Approach

This study investigates the role of Vastu-based spatial planning in enhancing the performance of north-facing (0° orientation) commercial shops. Rooted in traditional Indian architectural principles, the research integrates experiential knowledge with structured case study analysis to evaluate the relationship between directional alignment and measurable business outcomes. A total of ten commercial case studies, covering diverse retail categories and location factors, were systematically analyzed using a standardized data collection framework. Key spatial variables such as North-East (NE) activation, South-West (SW) stabilization, South-East (SE) functional alignment, and center (Brahmasthan) openness were examined in relation to performance indicators including sales growth, customer inflow, profit margins, and operational efficiency. The findings indicate a strong positive correlation between Vastu compliance and improved commercial outcomes. Approximately 90% of the cases showed increased customer inflow following NE correction, while 85% demonstrated enhanced financial stability after proper SW placement of the cash counter. Additionally, clearing central spatial blockages contributed to improved movement flow and operational effectiveness in the majority of cases. While the study is primarily observational and based on real-world case data, the consistency of results across multiple scenarios suggests that Vastu-based spatial optimization can serve as a valuable complementary approach in commercial design and planning. However, the research also acknowledges limitations such as sample size, lack of controlled experimental conditions, and the influence of external business factors. The study contributes to bridging traditional Vastu knowledge with contemporary commercial space planning, offering a structured framework for further empirical research and practical application in retail environments.
