“I Never Left”: Negotiating Leadership Identity as a Homegrown Superintendent

This case explores the professional and personal tensions experienced by Dr. Clayton Rhodes, a superintendent in a small rural school district in Georgia, who has advanced through every major educational role within the same district, from classroom teacher to district leader. As he transitions from subordinate to supervisor, Rhodes navigates shifting power dynamics, role ambiguity, and evolving community expectations.
