The incubation of entrepreneurial citizenship: neoliberal subjectivation in co-working spaces
This article aims to analyze the process of subjectivation of entrepreneurial citizens through their participation in financial mentorship and business support programs at co-working spaces. The central argument is that co-working spaces function as neoliberal devices with a dual purpose: to foster an entrepreneurial mindset in citizens and to shape the way they act, and intervene. In these spaces, a technological framework is deployed that redefines the identity and social role of citizens participating in entrepreneurial incubation programs, acting as a vehicle for subjectivation that encourages entrepreneurial identification and the adoption of new economic practices. This approach is exemplified through the case study of the Media-ICT co-working space in Barcelona, an institution that brings together scientists redirecting their activity towards the business world and offers them a set of narratives, economic strategies, and self-perceptions to successfully achieve their entrepreneurial goals.
