Influence of MgO and TiO 2 nanoparticles on linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) nanocomposites for cable application

Present investigation, MgO and TiO 2 nanoparticles are specially used as fillers in linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) for power cable insulation. The arrangement and spread of the nanoparticles with varying nanoparticle ratios (MgO and TiO 2 ) within the LLDPE using melt blending process and properties are evaluated via mechanical, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), electrical, dielectric, thermal, and dielectric breakdown strength. Improvements have been observed in tensile strength (23% and 27%), flexural strength (21.5% and 26.2%), impact strength (15.6% and 18.4%), thermal stability (35.42°C and 16.89°C), dielectric breakdown strength (48% and 41%) and melting point (3.4°C and 6.0°C) of MgO and TiO 2 nanocomposites, respectively, compare to neat LLDPE. Furthermore, thermal stability and dielectric breakdown strength (DBS) of magnesium-based nanocomposites demonstrated superior performance in comparison to titania-based nanocomposites. These findings indicate that the potential of both nanocomposites are suitable for applications for cable application.
