THE GOLD RE-ANCHOR EQUATION: Quantifying Fiat Dilution in the Age of Synthetic USD

This paper develops and interprets what we term the Gold Re-Anchor Equation,a structural identity that derives the implied gold price necessary to satisfy a given ratio of gold backing against a specified measure of the U.S. dollar money supply. Using February 2026 Federal Reserve data (M0: USD 5.39 trillion; M1: USD19.40 trillion; M2: USD22.67 trillion) and the official U.S. gold reserve of 8,133.46 metric tons (261.5 million troy ounces), we calculate implied gold prices ranging from USD 8,241 per troy ounce (40% backing against M0) to USD 86,679 per troy ounce (100% backing against M2) — multiples of 1.75× to 18.4× above the current market price of approximately USD 4,707/oz. All implied prices in this paper are expressed in USD per troy ounce (USD/oz), the international standard for gold price reporting. We further examine the shadow liquidity layer created by the Eurodollar system, FX swaps, and rehypothecated collateral chains, which extends effective USD-denominated claims well beyond official monetary aggregates. The paper does not predict gold price appreciation or a return to a gold standard. It demonstrates, arithmetically, that the gap between current gold prices and re-anchor equilibria represents a structural measure of fiat dilution — the degree to which credit-based monetary expansion has outpaced the fixed physical constraint. Implications for monetary architecture, systemic risk, and the conditions under which forced reconciliation might occur are discussed.
