Investment Behaviour and Financial Markets with Reference to Uttar Kannada District
Abstract Introduction: People in Uttara Kannada are generally careful with their money, prioritizing safety and easy access. They often choose bank deposits, gold, and insurance because of their understanding of finance and their need for steady returns over high gains. While urban areas are showing more interest in stocks, the overall pattern in the district indicates a slow shift towards more organized financial options. Objective of study: This study aims to explore how factors such as age, income, education, and risk tolerance affect investment choices in the region. Research methodology: To understand investment behavior in Uttara Kannada, a coastal and rural area, the study will use a descriptive and analytical approach with a sample of 100 individuals. Primary data will be gathered through surveys, while secondary data will come from sources like the Reserve Bank of India and local district reports. Data analysis: Investment habits in Uttara Kannada are evolving, with more people moving away from physical assets to digital financial tools as e-banking becomes more widespread. Result: Most people in the district prefer bank deposits (76.7%), gold (61.7%), and post office schemes (56.7%) because they value safety and easy access. Finding: Safety is the top priority for investors, with fixed deposits, post office savings, and gold being preferred over mutual funds or stocks. Recommendation: In rural areas, most people prefer Bank Fixed Deposits, Recurring Deposits, and Public Provident Funds (PPF), as these are seen as safe and dependable. Conclusion: Investment habits in Uttara Kannada are shaped by traditional and cautious attitudes towards risk.
