Efecto de formulaciones de Dictyoloma vandellianum A. Juss. (Huamansamana) en el control de piojos y ácaros en gallinas domésticas, San Martín, Perú
Huamansamana (Dictyoloma vandellianum A. Juss) is a plant resource particularlyabundant in the Amazon region, whose leaves have traditionally and empirically been used for the control and prevention of ectoparasites in poultry (Mallophaga and Acari). However, its effects under field and laboratory conditions remain poorly understood. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of formulations derived from Dictyoloma vandellianum A. Juss (huamansamana) on lice and mites affecting domestic poultry raised under family-based production systems. Nine formulations were prepared, including a control group, fresh leaves (extract, powder, and macerate), and stems (fresh and macerated). A total of 567 lice and fleas were collected from domestic poultry raised under backyard conditions. A completely randomized design with split plots and 3 × 3 factors was implemented under field conditions, and an additional experimental design was conducted under laboratory conditions. Subsequently, 252 ectoparasites were obtained, comprising lice (79.36%) and mites (20.64%). The results demonstrated that the formulation based on stem maceration achieved complete effectiveness (100%) against ectoparasites in both field and laboratory phases. The effectiveness observed in backyard poultry suggests that this plant-based formulation may support the adoption of more efficient integrated management strategies, reducing reliance on empirical practices in the field, incorporating a natural active component, and avoiding the excessive use of chemical products that could lead to resistance in the future.
