A Trinuclear Manganese(II) Complex Bridged by a Triaminoguanidine‐Based Schiff Base Ligand: Structure and Magnetic Properties

A triaminoguanidine‐based Schiff base ligand provides a tritopic coordination platform for the directed synthesis of a trinuclear manganese(II) complex. Reaction of the ligand 1,2,3‐tris[(pyridine‐2‐ylmethylidene)amino]guanidine (H 2 pytag) with manganese(II) salts in pyridine affords the trinuclear complex [Mn 3 Cl 3 (pytag)(py) 6 ]ClO 4 , representing the first manganese complex featuring a central triaminoguanidine scaffold. Single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction reveals three octahedrally coordinated high‐spin manganese(II) ions arranged in an almost equilateral triangular topology and interconnected through diazine N–N units of the ligand backbone. Magnetic susceptibility and magnetization measurements indicate weak antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between the manganese ions, with axial zero‐field splitting effects of comparable magnitude. The results highlight triaminoguanidine‐based Schiff base ligands as versatile synthetic platforms for the construction of well‐defined polynuclear metal complexes.
