Determinants of wheat row planting technology adoption among smallholder farmers in Burie Zuria Woreda, West Gojjam Zone, Ethiopia

Purpose The main objective of this study was to identify the factors influencing wheat row planting technology adoption by smallholder farmers in Bure Zuria Woreda, West Gojjam, Ethiopia. Design/methodology/approach A multi-stage sample technique was used to choose 352 smallholder farmers for this investigation. Primary data was gathered from the sampled farmers using structured questionnaires. Binary logistic regression model was employed to examine variables affecting wheat row planting technology adoption. This is because there are binary outcomes for the dependent variable, which is the likelihood that wheat row planting technology would be used. Findings Based on the results of the logistic regression, some institutional and demographic factors, including household family size, training, field visit experience, extension service, educational level and credit availability, were some of the important factors influencing the likelihood of adopting row planting technology in wheat production in the study area. Research limitations/implications It is advised that, funds for adult education aimed at rural farmers should be allocated, short and long-term training regarding the adoption of technology should be provided, easy access to credit and extension services should be available in order to encourage the adoption of wheat row planting among farmers, short- and long-term training regarding the adoption of technology, easy access to credit and extension services. Originality/value This study tried to identify and examine determinants of row planting technology adoption in wheat production adoption of small holder farmers in Bure Zuria Woreda, West Gojjam, Ethiopia.
