Resistance to clinically important antibiotics and reduced susceptibility to disinfectants in the pandemic ST398 methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus from Austria
Introduction: gene, a marker of human adaptation. Methods: type, plasmids, prophages, and phylogenetic relationships with 273 other MSSA ST398 strains. Results: gene. Discussion: with potentially mobile antimicrobial resistance and virulence-associated genes belonging to MSSA ST398 is present in Austria. Further expanded surveillance efforts are needed to accurately assess its prevalence in the community. The reduced susceptibility to disinfectants in this strain is concerning, as it may negatively affect mitigation efforts. Its relatedness to other European isolates from humans and animals calls for a One Health approach to surveillance.
