One-stage scalp composite tissue transplantation for the correction of pinched nose deformity in Asian patients undergoing revision rhinoplasty

Pinched nasal deformity is relatively common among Asian patients undergoing revision rhinoplasty and is frequently associated with nasal mucosal contracture, which makes corrective procedures particularly challenging. This study investigates the efficacy of one-stage scalp composite tissue transplantation as a corrective intervention for pinched nose deformities in Asian patients undergoing revision rhinoplasty. Between June 2020 and June 2023, a total of 12 Asian patients with pinched nose deformities resulting from previous rhinoplasties were included in this study. All participants underwent revision rhinoplasty that incorporated scalp composite tissue grafts aimed at correcting the pinched nose deformity. Surgical techniques, postoperative care, and follow-up protocols were meticulously documented throughout the process. All surgical procedures were successfully completed without any intraoperative complications reported. Follow-up periods varied for each patient, ranging from 11 to 18 months postoperatively. One patient experienced mild necrosis of the scalp composite tissue; however, wound healing was excellent in the remaining eleven cases. The necrotic area completely healed within two weeks following an extended regimen of dressing changes. Among the cohort, nine patients expressed high levels of satisfaction regarding their surgical outcomes, two reported general satisfaction, while one patient indicated dissatisfaction with the results obtained from the procedure. One-stage scalp composite tissue transplantation represents a promising approach to rectify pinched nose deformities in Asian patients undergoing revision rhinoplasty.
