Preventing diabetic kidney disease
Preventing diabetic kidney disease Associate Professor in Microvascular Medicine, Rebecca Foster, explores new therapeutic approaches to improve kidney health for diabetic patients. Type 1 and type 2 diabetes can cause kidney disease, taking up to 15 years to become established. There are simple screening tests for kidney disease, and new drugs have recently been approved for type 2 diabetes (which makes up 90% of diabetes worldwide) that protect the kidneys and the heart. So, why is the burden of diabetic kidney disease still increasing worldwide?
